What is localization?
It was around five in the evening yesterday when I found myself walking down to the market with my brother. We had, during the day, attended The International Summit on Localization organized by MAIT.
We were discussing the various sessions we had attended and the talks we had heard when an auto-rickshaw drove past us. The thing that struck me about that three-wheeler -- the drivd had pasted two CDs right below the headlight. Was it for beautification or to double up as reflectors, I do not know, but it immediately struck me, and I quote myself, -- "Localization is the process which would enable more and better uses of the CDs (technology) for such drivers".
Not just drivers, I want to emphasize on the illiterate/uneducated, atleast in English. Today IT literacy is determined by the English literacy rate because English is the standard everywhere, even on the web!
But Localization will change this, in the sense that a 'driver' too would be able to call himself IT literate.
Live long and prosper, and don't forget to create some localized content :)
