Troubled by spam?

I am sure you are. We all are. Don't think that I am going to suggest you some way out or show you some door or give you a pill. I am simply going to reiterate what I have read thus far.

The first step is to act smart and add some recognizable text into your email adress so that bots don't pick on it. That is to say, you can spell your email as me@myselfNOSPAM.com You see. Hopefully, the people who see your address would be smart enough to remove the NOSPAM part when emailing you.

We all know that certain group in redmond shouts that their customers can get confused with words such as mikrosoft or lindows or whatever. So we should consider such stupid people(who can get confused) and mention that the NOSPAM part needs to be removed :)

Another easy way for a spammer to get your email address(especially if you are on some free service) is by using the 'Check the availability of this username' feature. Heck, we are giving the spammers our id's on a silver platter by means of this check.

Another reason, for spam, is that the WWW is so saturated with good email id's that it is very easy for spammers to guess. If you can have 'digittydoo' as the username, you can bet like hell that 'diggitydoo1' would also be taken. And this is a long name. We all prefer small and short email id's. So if 'rks' is taken, so would be 'rks0-9 and some years' So to avoid spam, another trick is to go for slightly bigger id's, such as linuxlalasuggestedbig@thispart'slengthdoesn'tmatter.com :)

I don't know how effective this would be and who would try it. Personally, I don't have any intention of changing my id. I've had it for years and I will continue to. The new kids though can try if this formula works. And if you do try this formula, wait for at least thee months before celebrating.

Cheers.
