When giants battle in the name of Linux

It's a great read, no doubt. A perfect example of a neat writeup. The flow of the article is smooth, much smoother than the flow of emotions I have seen from England and German soccer fans :)

But could someone explain what this nicely compiled piece of crap means. Look at the byline of the story,
How ironic that the free software has been embraced by the very players it was meant to undermine.

The mysticism continues,
IN the jungle, the mighty IT jungle, the Linux deer sleeps tonight - with the IBM elephant, the HP lion, the Sun tiger and now the Oracle gorilla. Poor deer, she couldn't say no; after all, she was born to be Open and Free.

I hate this description. I understand the point the author tries to make, but Linux a deer, after making the Tiger run for their money, what's this honey?

it was an act of rebellion against the IT giants who were raking in millions of dollars a year from their closely protected operating systems and application software. About time you realized, it was not an act of rebellion, rather a belief. A belief in his project and the courage to challenge the IT majors.

It's certainly turning out rather differently from the vision that Linux's creator had back in 1991. Ainghhhh, wrong answer. This is exactly what Linus envisioned. That is why he put Linux on the internet, so that people could help it become great. And it has. The vision was never to hurt the corporate players but to do justice to the users. The vision was to provide software that would actually work. The vision was to make Linux the obvious choice for all. That vision is what drives the Open Source Community.

The goal is not to achieve maximum market share, the objective is to attain global acceptance. The idea was to reach the masses and the driving force is to satisfy the masses.
